SASKATCHEWAN CANNOT AFFORD MARK CARNEY’S EV SCHEME
Do you feel like subsidizing somebody else’s purchase of a $50,000 electric vehicle? That’s what Mark Carney is forcing you to do.
Carney wants you to believe that he is scrapping Justin Trudeau’s unpopular EV mandate. Trudeau’s plan was to outright BAN the sale of gas and diesel vehicles by 2035. Carney is PRETENDING he’s lifting the ban, but he’s really using a sneaky series of rules to force car dealerships to effectively end the sale of internal combustion engines by imposing strict regulations that only EVs can meet. Its effectively the same outcome. Regular cars and trucks will still become more expensive, and harder to find.
Carney also announced a taxpayer-funded subsidy of $5,000 for those wealthy enough to afford EVs. That means working people who cannot afford EVS will see their tax dollars go to those who can.
If that isn’t bad enough, the overwhelming majority of EVs are manufactured in foreign countries, especially the USA. That means Mr. “Elbows Up” Carney is effectively taxing you to subsidize AMERICAN auto jobs. At a time when Donald Trump’s tariffs are damaging Canada’s own auto sector, it makes absolutely NO sense to send tax dollars to American auto companies.
People in Saskatchewan deserve the right to choose which car, truck, or minivan suits them best. Many people need trucks and SUVs that can haul thousands of pounds of equipment without complaint, tow trailers over muddy back roads in spring or snow-covered highways in winter, and maintain their range even on the coldest of days.
Mark Carney’s Liberals ignores these basic facts. They keep trying to take away consumer choice, and are effectively recycling Trudeau’s failed policy under a different name.
Conservatives have a plan to make purchasing vehicles more affordable, support jobs in Canada, and protect your right to choose your own vehicle.
Our plan removes the GST on vehicles assembled in Canada so tough, reliable trucks and SUVs cost less and stay within reach for hard-working Saskatchewan families like yours.
For example, our plan would save the buyer of a $52,000 truck assembled in Canada $2,602 in GST. That saved money stays local. It can help pay for maintenance, upgrades, or other essentials that keep the farm and family moving forward.
Liberal policies have already damaged our auto sector badly. Thousands of jobs have vanished, production numbers have dropped by nearly half since the peak years, and communities that depend on those plants feel the pain every day.
Mark Carney’s rebate sends Canadian tax dollars to foreign manufacturers instead of supporting our own workers. Rural Saskatchewan should not be taxed to subsidize American and Chinese EVs that do not suit our land, our weather, or our way of life.
The choice is clear: Carney’s costly rebate program that bans your favorite vehicle and subsidizes foreign made EVs, or broad based tax relief on all kinds of new vehicles that supports Canadian manufacturing. As always, only Conservatives are on Saskatchewan’s side.
